The Stone Didn’t Win
“Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.” –Matthew 28:5–6
There was a moment when everything looked sealed.
The stone was in place.
The tomb was closed.
The guards were posted.
From the outside, it looked final.
Hope had been crucified.
The body was buried.
And the story… appeared finished.
Because that’s what stones do.
They seal things.
They mark endings.
They declare that something is over.
And if you’ve ever had a moment in your life where something felt sealed shut…you know how heavy that can feel.
A door closed you didn’t want closed.
A relationship that didn’t survive.
A prayer that didn’t get answered the way you hoped.
It can feel like a stone has been rolled into place, and there’s no moving it.
But the story of Easter was never about the stone.
It was about what God can do in spite of it.
Because while everything on the outside looked finished…God was rewriting the ending.
The stone was not a barrier.
It was a setup.
Not to keep Jesus in, but to reveal that He was no longer there.
And that changes everything.
Because it means the things that look final in your life, might not actually be final at all.
What feels sealed, is not beyond Him.
What feels over, is not beyond redemption.
What feels like the end, might just be the place where God is about to reveal something greater than you imagined.
The stone didn’t win.
And it never will.
Father,
Thank You that what looks final to me is not final to You.
When I’m standing in front of something that feels sealed and unmovable, remind me that You are still working.
Help me trust You in the places where it feels like the story is over.
Strengthen my faith to believe that You are able to rewrite what I thought was finished.
And thank You that because of Jesus, the stone never gets the final word.
Amen.
