Honoring Yesterday. Blessing Tomorrow.
“We want to steward today in a way that honors yesterday and blesses tomorrow.” –Amber Camp
Sometimes life has a way of changing your plans.
Not because you failed.
Not because you lacked faith.
But because life simply happened.
Lately, my husband and I have been making some difficult decisions about our future. Decisions about our home. Our finances. Our health. Our family. On the surface, they look like practical decisions, but underneath them lies a much deeper question.
What does it look like to be a good steward of the season God has entrusted to us?
For years, I thought stewardship was mostly about money. But as I’ve gotten older, I think it’s about much more than that.
It’s about stewarding your health before it’s gone.
Stewarding your marriage before busyness steals it.
Stewarding your parents while you still have the privilege of sitting across the table from them.
Stewarding your children while they’re still asking you to tuck them into bed.
Stewarding your time because it is one of the few things you can never earn back.
Sometimes stewardship even means letting go. It means releasing something you love because holding onto it is no longer the wisest choice.
That’s hard.
Especially when memories live inside walls.
Especially when you’ve poured years of work into something.
Especially when your heart whispers, “But we’ve already invested so much.”
I’ve learned that God never asks us to cling to yesterday if clinging prevents us from walking faithfully into tomorrow.
The goal isn’t to preserve every possession.
The goal is to preserve what matters most.
People.
Peace.
Purpose.
Presence.
Legacy.
I’ve also realized that legacy isn’t something we leave when we’re gone. Legacy is something we build every single day.
It’s found in the conversations we have. The prayers we pray. The way we care for aging parents. The sacrifices we make for our spouses. The wisdom we show our children. The way we respond when life doesn’t unfold according to our plans.
Maybe stewardship isn’t asking,
“What can I keep?”
Maybe it’s asking,
“What has God entrusted to me for this season, and how can I care for it well?”
Sometimes that means staying.
Sometimes it means leaving.
Sometimes it means building.
Sometimes it means surrendering.
Wisdom is knowing the difference.
As we’ve prayed through our own next steps, one sentence has settled deeply into my heart.
We want to steward today in a way that honors yesterday and blesses tomorrow.
Yesterday deserves gratitude.
Tomorrow deserves preparation.
But today…Today is where stewardship lives.
And perhaps that’s one of the greatest acts of faith we can offer God–not simply believing Him for tomorrow, but faithfully caring for what He’s placed in our hands today.
May we be people who don’t merely accumulate more. May we steward better.
Because the choices we make today become the legacy someone else will inherit tomorrow.
