Fresh and Flourishing
Some seasons of life uproot you so deeply that you begin to wonder if you will ever feel steady again.
You survive things that shake your identity. Losses you didn’t choose.
Disappointments you never saw coming. Heartbreak that changes the way you move through the world.
And if we’re honest, there are moments when we stop asking,
“Will I flourish?” and start asking,
“Will I even survive this?”
But Psalm 92 gives us a different picture.
“Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing.” Psalm 92:13–14
Notice something important:
The promise of flourishing is connected to being planted.
Not rushed.
Not striving.
Not performing.
Planted.
Roots take time.
Healing takes time.
Trust takes time.
And sometimes God is doing His deepest work underneath the surface where nobody can see it yet.
There were seasons in my life where I felt stripped down to nothing but survival. Seasons where I could not see beauty growing anywhere around me, but looking back now, I realize God was not abandoning me in those places.
He was rooting me.
Rooting me deeper in truth.
Deeper in wisdom.
Deeper in dependence on Him.
Deeper in compassion for people walking through pain.
And what I love most about this passage is that it does not just say we will survive.
It says we will flourish.
Fresh and flourishing.
Not bitter.
Not hardened.
Not barely hanging on.
Fresh.
There is something deeply powerful about a person who has walked through fire and still carries softness.
Still carries kindness.
Still carries hope.
Still believes God can bring beauty from ashes.
That kind of flourishing does not come from an easy life. It comes from deep roots.
Maybe today you feel buried.
Exhausted.
Unseen.
Or stuck in a season that feels painfully slow, but buried things can still grow.
And just because the roots are underground does not mean God is absent there.
Stay planted.
Keep leaning toward Him.
Even if growth feels invisible right now.
Because in the right season, what God has rooted deeply will bloom beautifully.
Scripture:
“Those who are planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; they shall be fresh and flourishing.”
Psalm 92:13–14
Prayer:
Lord, help me stay planted when life feels uncertain. Teach me to trust You in the hidden seasons where roots are forming beneath the surface. When I feel weary, remind me that You are still growing something beautiful in me. Let my life bear fruit that reflects Your goodness, and keep my heart soft, fresh, and flourishing in You. Amen.
