A Parents Prayer

There is a different kind of pain that comes with watching your child suffer. Not your own suffering. Theirs.

If you’ve ever sat awake wondering if they’re okay… if you’ve cried after hanging up the phone… if you’ve watched them make choices you wish you could undo… if you’ve begged God to remove a burden you would gladly carry yourself…

Then you know.

As parents, we spend years protecting our children.

We buckle their seatbelts.

We hold their hands as they cross the street.

We kiss scraped knees.

We teach them right from wrong.

We do everything we can to keep pain from finding them, but eventually there comes a season when our arms can no longer shield them from life’s hardest realities. And that’s where faith becomes incredibly costly.

Recently I heard a quote:

“That trial your child is walking through may one day be their testimony. Trust that God is carrying them.”

I needed that reminder.

Maybe you do too.

Because when someone you love is hurting, every instinct inside of you wants to fix it.

We want to rescue.

To intervene.

To carry the weight for them.

Sometimes we can.

Sometimes we should.

But sometimes…God lovingly whispers,

“This part belongs to Me.”

That doesn’t mean He has abandoned them.

It doesn’t mean He is ignoring your prayers, and it certainly doesn’t mean He is indifferent to their pain.

It means He may be doing something in them that no parent, no pastor, no counselor, and no friend could ever accomplish.

Some of our deepest encounters with God don’t happen on the mountaintops.

They happen in the valleys where we finally realize He’s the only One strong enough to carry us.

Would I choose suffering for my children?

Never.

Would I choose unnecessary heartache for anyone I love?

Of course not.

But if I have to choose between a comfortable life apart from God or a difficult season that leads them into His arms–I’ll choose His arms every single time.

Because testimony isn’t built in the absence of trials. It’s built in the presence of a faithful God.

If you’re carrying the weight of a child who has wandered.

A child battling anxiety.

A child caught in addiction.

A broken marriage.

A difficult diagnosis.

A shattered dream.

Or simply a season you never imagined they would face. Please don’t mistake God’s silence for His absence.

He sees every tear.

He knows every fear.

He loves your child even more than you do, and that’s almost impossible for a parent to comprehend.

Today, maybe the greatest act of faith isn’t finding the perfect words or the perfect solution.

Maybe it’s opening your hands and saying,

“Lord, I cannot carry what only You were meant to carry. Please hold my child when I can’t.”

That isn’t giving up.

That’s giving them to the One who has loved them since before you ever held them in your own arms.

And if God can turn a cross into an empty tomb–He can certainly turn today’s trial into tomorrow’s testimony.

“Sometimes the greatest gift we can give our children isn’t rescuing them from every storm… it’s trusting the One who walks on the waves” ❤️
